Polish Christmas Music

Johan de Meij

Since many centuries Poland boasts a very rich tradition as to Christmas Carols. Some hymns belong to the church music, while others definitely do have a folk music character. I have used both these elements in my suite. You can hear successively the songs: Poklon Jezusowi; Mizerna, cicha; Aniol pasterzom mówil; Gdy sliczna Panna and Jam jest dudka.

Commissioned by The American School of the Hague, Arts Director James Yarnell, for the 20th Annual International Honor Band and Choir Festival 1995. World Premiere performance conducted by Dennis Johnson - Choir Director: Doug Nichol.
